2009 KLBA Annual Meeting

Committee Reports:

Association Sale - Jerry Meek stated the 2009 sale would be held Saturday, April 4 at Salina.  It was being held on Saturday this year because Sunday is Pal Sunday and Easter is the following weekend.  The auctioneer will be Chisum Peterson.  The sale headquarters will be at the Econolodge.

Show/Fairs - Cash Schilling stated the Lim-flex cattle were being included to show alongside the purebred at the Nation level 2 & 3 shows.  Discussion followed about the state fair.  It was moved by Debbie Crow and seconded by Pat Meek that the Limousin and Lim-flex cattle continue to be shown separately at the Kansas State Fair.  Motion carried.

News/Website - Pat Meek reported she had been sending articles in for publication and keeping the website updated.  She asked that anyone who had news articles contact her so she could get them sent in.

Advertising - Jerry Meek reported Kansa had been approved for $2000.00 coop advertising funds for this year.  He also reported he was checking into the rates for radio advertising.

Heartland Limousin Association.  It was moved by Jerry Meek and seconded by Jim Hays that Kansas renew their contract with Heartland for 2009. Motion carried.  Bruce also reported there was a position available on the Heartland Board of Directors and Cash Schilling had volunteered to serve in that position.  It was moved by Gail Ratliff and seconded by Marc Deever that Cash Schilling be appointed to the Heartland board.  Motion carried.

New Business:  The proposed budget was passed out to those present and discussion followed.  It was moved by Jim Hays and seconded by Jerry Meek that the budget be accepted as presented.  Motion carried.

Bruce Schrag announced that he and Walt Rolf would be retiring from the board and were not eligible to serve another term.  Jim Hays was also retiring but was eligible for another term.  The nominated committee was proposing Him Hays, Gail Ratliff and Randy Corns to serve on the board.  It was moved by Debbie Crow that the nominations cease and cast a unanimous ballot.  Motion seconded by David Ratliff.  Motion carried.

Heartland Regional Show - Dean Summerbell thanked Kansas for hosting the 2009 show which will be held June 5 & 6 in Ottawa, Ks.  He reported that the cost of the facilities and judge were handled by Heartland and after stalling and check-in were completed the show was managed by the NALJA staff.  The only responsibility to Kansas is providing the Friday evening meal.  The entries should be submitted to NALF by May 1.  Karen Campbell reported the junior association has also agreed to provide lunch on Saturday.  She stated they were planning on hamburgers, potato casserole and vegetables for the Friday night meal and possibly sloppy Joes, etc. for Saturday.  She asked that the Senior Association provide help serving the Saturday lunch and also help with the clean-up.  The junior Field Day will then be held on Sunday - June 7.  It will be a no fit show and KJLBA will need to provide a judge for that show.

2010 National Junior Heifer Show - Gail Ratliff reported the contract has been approved between NALF and the State fairgrounds.  The show will be held July 3-10, 2010.  Show headquarters will be at the Grand Prairie Hotel.  He stated the Hutchinson Convention Center will be working with the motels, etc. and has also donated $1000 for the event.  Gail has already contacted and sent numerous letters and emails for corporate sponsors and donations.  He has tentatively put together a list of 51 classes and divisions that will need award sponsors.  A sign-up sheet was passed around for everyone to sign and Gail urged everyone to get involved and help with  this event. 

There being no further business it was moved by Jim Hays and seconded by Jerry Meek that the meeting be adjourned.  Motion carried.

Following the annual meeting the board of directors met briefly and elected officers for 2009.

President Jerry Meek, Vice President Cash Schilling and Secretary/Treasurer Debbie DeLaTorre
